I am developing a digital RPM meter, to measure the speed of pumps and motors. The min. RPM would be 100 and max. would be 4000 RPM. I am using 89C52 microcontroller, 11.0592MHz clocker. I am looking at a resolution of 1 RPM. I used the counter method to count the incoming pulse, for one second. But in that case i get a resolution of 60RPM. I tried using the pulse width method, but since the width of the incoming pulse is not constant, the RPM is not constant. Kindly suggest me a solution. Thanks.
