I have read some of the mails (not all of them) regarding RPM measurement @4000 rpm.

Mr. Vivek Jain, are you sure you want and RPM meter with a resolution of 1 rpm at 4000 rpm.

Well, Resolution and accuracy are different parameters, hence do get confused between them. First find out what you want resolution or accuracy ?

If you are looking for accuracy, then How on Earth can you prove, that the motor is running at 3999 Rpm, and not at 4000 rpm. Well If you need this accuracy, then I think 8051 will NOT be able to handle this rpm without any intermediate circuit in between.

If you want a resolution then there are other methods by which you can get resolution of 1 rpm instead of 60 rpm.

I had developed an RPM meter about 5-6 years back, it worked well till 2500 rpm. I have never seen a motor being used above 2000 rpm till now. I had developed this instrument for a company where I was an employee, hence I will not be able to disclose detail info about it.
