We have two ways to design:
(1) as engineers.
(2) as businessmen.

The reason we're talking about converting the problem into simple tables is that it allows us to use a simple microprocessor(uP) at 1/5th the cost. Why use a uP with a multiply and divide if you don't need it for the application? If you can use a slower clock and simple algorithm, you also increase battery lifetime.

As an engineer not worrying about profits, I'd agree that an 8051 would be more fun calculating data in great resolution... I just wouldn't be a rich engineer. :)
