I have been reading that somewhere else , but i know you can run it. hmm but it makes no sense !
because 1 or 2 MIPS for the smallest linux kernel is very small ! and of course you can decode mp3 on a 8051 based MCU but not REAL TIME !

and ARM is Advanced Risc Machine (if i remmember corrcet) . and it can run a very much mips with pipeline and some other nice feauters . it is developed by ARM group . (200 MIPS 32 bit risc architecture and DMA controller ,...)

Atmel also have made some MCUs based on it . you cam look at ARM91 onder atmel site.
