Erik:
Thanks for the acknowledgement and agreement. Item 7: I mentioned the analog scope as just a minumum requirement. An embedded person, well endowed with cleverness and the innate debugging capabilities that I described in my item #12, can go a long way with an analog scope. In addition the beginner can find the analog scope to be an almost magical thing as it opens the door of visibility into a realm that he has not looked at before. Yes...if it is a case of a first time buy, especially for a company, then by all means go right for the DSO. On the other hand for a new person trying to setup a lab for minumum money it could be attractive to go with an analog unit that costs way less but does bring benefit. I agree that a digital scope is great but guess what....I do not have one! It would take me about $5K to buy the type of DSO that I would want even as a used thing. There has always been a more pressing need here for other tools than a DSO so I get along rather well with my four channel Kenwood. If a day comes when it fritzes out and cost of repair becomes excessive then I'll look into those newest small Tektronix DSO units. They are a couple $K I believe. Michael Karas |
