I agree that a digital scope is great but guess what....I do not have one! It would take me about $5K to buy the type of DSO that I would want even as a used thing. There has always been a more pressing need here for other tools than a DSO so I get along rather well with my four channel Kenwood. If a day comes when it fritzes out and cost of repair becomes excessive then I'll look into those newest small Tektronix DSO units. They are a couple $K I believe.
Last I were asked to make an 'economy purchase" I bought an old tektronix 566 2 channel 200 MHz storage scope for $800. I have not shopped for analog scopes for a long time, but I would guess that a mimimal analog scope (after all you WILL need 100 MHz) would cost the same or more. PS I do most of my work with a TekScope THS720 It is wonderfully handy and good enough for 98.32% of my work. I am, in addition, fortunate enough to share a 'real' scope for the rest, but that is a pain to drag around. Erik |
