Thanks for sharing all of your experiences and advices.

In fact I have been depending on the built in protections till date and have never been very serious about this issue - ( though I never used to handle any IC / PCB by the pin outs ).

Looks like some standard handling procedures in site conditions needs to be evolved, as advised by some you, immediatley.
