#56748 - RE: PDF Version of 8052.com tutorial Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi Craig and hi to all of you! I believe that there is nothing you can do about protecting your tutorial in PDF format. As you know, there are tools to remove passwords from PDFs or compressed files. But you don't need to have the tutorial in a PDF, MS-Word or other format to cheat your work. The web format is enough to do the same thing. In fact for personal use, I repeat for personal use only, I have copied and pasted to MS-Word all the tutorials that exist here. Apart from copying and pasting I 've added other things, that either I made them myself or took from other sources (for example how to interface a 4x4 matrix keyboard to 8051 (project in one of the labs I had to do in my university), DC motors, stepper motors, 64k memory limit, etc.). I have printed the whole material and made it a very nice book for 8051. If I wanted, I could give it without Craig's permission, and of course without the permission of the other authors/sources from where I took their material, or worst I could say it is my work.
In fact, 4 or 5 months ago, I don't remember, I was in Kazaa searching for 8051 related documents. And what did I discover? An MS-Word document titled "8052 Tutorial"!!! A guy had done exactly what I have done. He copied and pasted Craig's tutorials to MS-Word (fortunately he had Craig's name in it). So as you can understand it is very easy to steal someone's work, claim it is yours and make profit from it. Let's not hide behind our finger. Look what happened with Windows XP. Windows XP CDs where in Moscow's underground available for a very low price, before their official release in the computer stores. Of course I don't mean that Craig should not protect his work. What I mean is: Craig give your PDF without any second thoughts. If someone wants to make profit from it, he/she will do it, whatever you do to protect it (passwords, downloading available only for members, etc.).....unfortunately... I want to believe that Raghunathan and Sanjeev Kumar expressed how the vast majority of us feel about this matter. So Craig: Don't hesitate!!! George St. Pallis PS Craig I want to send you my MS-Word version of the tutorial. Is that possible? |
