Philips terminology is:

ISP - serial communications between the device and a PC to erase/program/etc. In System Programming. I.e. programming the device while in the system.

IAP - the firmware in the device calling routines in ROM to erase/program/etc. In Application Programming. I.e. the application performing the programming.

The ISP bootloader processes the received hex records and then calls the IAP routines in ROM to perform the necessary operation.
