#57759 - RE: 16 Bit MCU based on 8051 Core Responding to: ???'s previous message |
So far all we know from Imran Saeed is that they have existing code running on a 8051 type processor. Now there is a need to connect some external 16-bit wide peripheral via the external bus and they want to utilize some other 13.5 MHz clock so save an oscillator and gain synchronization.
One can deduce that it is highly desired to be able to utilize much of the existing code without re-writing it. We do not know enough yet about the 16-bit reqirement to derive any conclusion about the math requirements of the application!! It could be that a 16-bit processor is a total overkill!!! I suggest that Imran Saeed should either define more fully the requirements for 16-bit needs OR stick with an 8-bit processor. Goodness knows there are plenty of 8-bit types that have incredible performance these days. It should easily be possible to connect the 16 bit peripheral to an 8-bit external bus and perform two reads or 2 writes to access the peripheral!!! Michael Karas |
