It could be that a 16-bit processor is a total overkill!!!
Yes Michael at 1st we considered using Motorola MC683xx series but after evaluation we dropped it. Using 8 bit multiplexed addressing could do the job there are some restrictions in the design so most likely we will be going after Philips XA series. Getting an IP core is also out of question due to financial and time restrictions as it will extend development time and cost.
