These inputs are opto isolated so that I can get total isolation from the industrial equipment that these connect to. I need to have high common mode isolation and complete isolation even between the individual inputs. The switiching that I am trying to do has to be on the industrial equipment side of the opto couplers. The user supplied bias voltages may be as high as 35 VDC abd the common mode to my equipment could should work (and provide isolation up to 100V or more). Under these conditions analog switches just are not going to stand up.
