Try this:

connect your modem to your pc and start hyperterminal.

Type ATDT123456

What happens?
"Nothing" you say...
Now that is correct...
Press <ENTER>.
What happens now?
"It dials" you say...
What do you think happened when you pressed the <ENTER> key?

Think also of the following: How on earth would your modem now that your command is finished? (If it wasn't for the terminating <CR>)...

Also check out following result of a search on google with "AT-command set":

The first site that comes up has (my emphasis):


"The modem will acknowledge most commands almost immediately. As soon as you type in a command ending with the carriage return character your modem will respond with OK."

Don't believe that this will solve your problem. Believing is OK for religious matters, not for microcontrollers. Any of the posters here can have a valid point. Only testing will tell you were the problems is.
