#6215 - "Strapping" the /EA-Vpp Pin
Intel and Atmel datasheets use the following phrases:

"/EA must be strapped to GND in order to enable the device to fetch code from external memory locations ..."

"/EA should be strapped to Vcc for internal program executions."

Is there some reason why a totem pole output, or open-collector output (with pullup resistor) could not be attached to the /EA pin to control whether boot occurs from internal or external program memory, provided external circuitry exists to select the appropriate boot location?

Thanks.
