Hi Fahmy,
"If it's such a bad design, why does it work well so far?" Any disregarding of the data sheet is a bad design ! Not every disregarding of the data sheet must cause malfunction, but it can cause malfunction. Be lucky that your design work today, but be shure, that it must not work forever. Also any floating input can cause higher current consumption. "ATMEL's sheet did'n mentioned such effect if the /EA left unconnected." Since they not expected, that anybody left inputs unconnected.
