"...upload the text names ( converted to a hex value of course)..."
I'm sorry, but that doesn't make sense. Only binary information can travel over the wire. Hex is a mere representation of binary data grouped together in 4 bit nibbles for more convenient reading by people of binary content. Although you can see hex on a computer screen or a printout, it is by no means native to the computer. It is pure binary, inside AND out. Remember that no computer cares what you send through its circuits (internally or though the I/O), as long as it's only 0's and 1's. It's only us humans who associate human concepts (like single characters or whole names) with these 0's and 1's before and after the computer is done with them. So essentially, you are not sending names. You are sending binary information which later you AS A HUMAN will treat as ascii characters. In fact, it doesn't matter to the entire process of what you describe you are planning to do if you were not going to transfer names but digitized video. Bottom line: There is no need to process the names in any way in order to be able to send it to your uC because the names are already represented in binary (you use the ASCII representation to see this binary information as characters and names, but in fact it's BINARY ALL THE WAY) in your PC just before you were going to send them. So stating you will process them into hex therefore makes no sense, especially since hex is only a format for representation. Just send strings, or single characters: it doesn't matter. It will arrive safely. |
