Hi Tim
To move data from the PC to uC (and uc to PC)using RS232 ,you can create your own set of ASCII based command codes and program a command interpreter in the uC. When the uC recieves a command from the PC it calls the necessary subroutine - which in your case may be to copy the following names to eeprom or suchlike.
