It is getting even better. From what I hear about next Intel chip Hexium, due to the flip chip packaging the registers are going to touch the top of the package, which will have heat sensitive coating. So in debug/step mode the bits in the register will shown up in different colors on the cover of the package. Of course you will have to debug the code with the PC cover open.
