Thank you very much for your prompt reply, I know the diagram shows as you explain without the tie dot where the wires cross over, but if you read the text in the same page (#35) if says the DOUT and DIN should be connected together, if you recollect similar schemes are usually suggested for SPI eeproms such as the 93C series, where the DOUT and DIN are tied together to save a micro pin.
