#71458 - Sad, but true: yet not Utterly negative!

Why are you assuming this about newbies in general?

Unfortunately, I am not assuming it - I am judging it from the evidence before my very eyes.

OF course there are shining examples to the contrary, but far too many where it is, as I said, patently obvious that they have not followed the simple instructions on the posting form.

My suggestion was a way that might ensure that they at least had to read the instructions, and click links to indicate that they had done so. It might even actually get them to read the FAQ, and the Turorials, and do the 'Search'.
This is not entirely negative: I have made a suggestion that I think could improve the situation.

As I just said, it looks like many currently don't even read the instructions - so they will be unaware that there even is a FAQ section, or Tutorials, or that they could search and possible find the answer already given!

Example: there have been a couple of enquiries recently about books, and it was quite obvious that they hadn't looked at the button!

all I am suggesting is that the FAQ and tutorials can be rounded off with sample postings, like sample code.

You missed my main point: if people don't even read the FAQ in the first place, this won't help them!
Hence my suggestion was an attempt to improve the chances that people might actually read the FAQ, etc, before posting.

Actually, Dan Henry posted an excellentlink on How To Ask Smart Questions - and thus get good replies - on any internet forum:
