Silicon Labs (formerly Cygnal) have parts like the C8051F124 for example that have eight 8-bit ports. These parts also have onboard 8K byte SRAM and 128K FLASH
At a lower cost you have the Philips P89C668 that has onboard 8K byte SRAM and 64K FLASH.

I use both the C8051F124 and the P89C668, both have their place.
