I'd use an addressable latch. You could use a 573, and a 138, but if you only want to lose one memory location in the map for I/O, you need to decode 16 address lines somehow. I'd use GAL or something myself, and maybe you could put some of your other discrete logic in it too.

Hello Steve,

As I have mentioned this is the first time I am using external memory, I have designed the circuit collecting information from this site. For me the max memory that is required is only 64k RAM and in no case it wil cross this limit, then can i use this??? The reason I choose to use the mentioned components, is avaiablilty.
