It's been said, but I'm not sure I believe it. I think that is based in large part on Microsoft FUD. Based on design alone, *nix is more secure since you aren't running as root. And those security issues that exist in Linux are generally patched faster and are of less importance to start with than security issues on Windows.

I've been virus (and anti-virus!) free ever since I upgraded to Linux in March 2003. It's nice just getting work done without having to worry about whether your machine is being used against you, what spyware is monitoring you, and which websites may or may not be infected and installing malware in your browser.
