#75435 - RE: Is it used for auto-calibration rout
Responding to: ???'s previous message
"You know that 1kg 387g and 12mg gives readout of 10.777.216 on the ADC and you don't really care what strangely mangled signal in electrical terms does the ADC value correspond to."

"You don't care that the pulses differ by 0.12ns. You just care that they differ."

> Certifying labs would not be too pleased to hear those arguments.
> Repeatability of specifications in a production line would be a nightmare, as each instrument would have to be treated "unique"
> As long as you dont know "what mangled signal " produced that output, how would you calibrate and certify the whole span ?

I am sure none of the above would have slipped your attention but I feel that you generally hinted at a kind of relative calibration as opposed to absolute calibration. Some common analogies that I can think of

: 0-100% graduations on a Volume control knob of an audio system instead of dB values of actual gain.

: 0-10 markings on a tuning dial of an FM radio - all you care is that Station_A locks in at 4.8 mark and dont care if it 110.28 MHz..
