#76354 - RE: Your favourite \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Hello Rob,

I made my post because I perceive the 8051 users are more interested in the data sheet than in the applications.

To me selecting a derivative because of the amount of pins it has, it speed (clock rate 12:1, 6:1 2:1, 1:1), or it current popularity or what your customers think it might look like is foolish.

The real world doesn't care about those things. The bottom line is what counts to most of the people of the world. Does it solve the problem? Then the next question is how do you make it cheaper and better?

The reference post was of a fellow in a remote part of the world that is being affected by the digital revolution. The preferred method of quality is still film because digital can't even come close to delivering the quality film can. He is finding the real world is bypassing him by not providing fresh chemicals to develop his film. So he takes matters into his own hands and solves the problem.

Looking at his solution impressed me. He used the 555 timer IC (the time machine) to control a H bridge to perform rotation of the film canister. Think of how much trouble he saved his self if he had done that in a typical 8051 IC. (Timer, ISR, Loops, Heavy duty knowledge of the assembly, etc..)

This situation is happening all over the world. Between the wireless world and digital whatever there must be many people in remote parts of the world being left behind on the technological highway.

This only presents opportunity to designers to find the niche to fill the void.

This is what I am seeing being done using the PIC IC's.

Hopefully the 8051 can fit in the picture someway.

Regards,

Charles Bannister
