I don't think that Atmel gave wrong information. They could have skipped the programming algorithm at all (just like Philips does). To me it seems that there is something wrong in your hardware prototype which (due to some unknown reason) is acceptable to C51 but not S51 device. I have checked your voltage levels and they seem correct according to datasheet. Have you checked the voltage levels with the AT89S51 in the socket? If yes, can you check these without AT89S51 and compare the results. The difference would be in Pin 18 and 19, of course. Let me know the reults. It seems I will have to find my self made parallel programmer (for AT89C series) and check it with AT89S devices (curosity is increasing as the thread is going on). |
