I used this configuration for interfacing an LCD to the bus without problems of timings, then i have four address two for reading and two for writing in the LCD.. The problem will become if i comfuse the addr and make a 'write' in a 'read' addr... but it works fine if you don't make a mistake. The idea was not mine, was taken from elecktor magazine from an expansion board for the '52 system.

If you want a 74138 and a and gate then there are two ics, why don't use two 138s or as somebody says one chip with two decoders 'on board' like the 139 or other.
