I don't kow if he is using a switching source and may be the transformer secondary coil is not easy to find and is easy to put directly in the mains 230v

Even so, he will need some sort of "diode-OR" to link-in the battery backup - the sense just needs to go on the "input" side of the "mains" diode: just imagine the transformer, bridge & reservoir in my diagram replaced with a box marked "mains PSU."

If he's using a switcher, it might even have a "Mains Fail" output...

If we are using your circuit i prefer to put the sensor directly in the transformer pins because in your circuit you must wait the discharge of the capacitor to know that ac was out.
