Those Atmel 89s series controllers can be a bit of a nightmare to program due to unresolved bugs in the silicon. I believe the newer 89c variants which include a built-in bootloader are a simpler option, as the only hardware required is a MAX232 and a standard serial cable. Atmel's PC software that drives the bootloader is not only free but actually quite good. |
