#87538 - glady

Erik, you expressed your dislike for Atmel parts several times; can you please for benefit of us perhaps tell more of the reasons?
When the first Atmel '51 chips came out I were using them and ran into a problem. The chip revison was something like 'g'. I proved to my satisfaction (used my own tools to make an Intel chip with the same code) that there was an error in the Atmel chip. I reported it to Atmel and they wrote back "this problem does not exist in our perfect chip" (not a literal quote). So I lost my job because I could not get the thing to run (tragically the company went under). Lo and behold, about a year later the problem that did not exist magically appeared in the errata.

Erik

That, of course, totally turned me off using Atmel. The reason I still maintain the grudge is that ever so often (in this and other fora) some Atmel user will state "Atmel is very slow with the errata" or "This is not in the errata". Of course, those that use chips that Atmel has made for ages should be fairly safe.

If you look at Philips in contrast, you will see that the errata will list problems even before you find them yourself
