#8932 - Bypass / Decoupling Capacitor Selection |
I thought I'd survey for recommendations for bypass / decoupling capacitors for various components. It might be interesting to compare our heuristic rules.
I tend use the guidelines in Tim Williams' book, The Circuit Designer's Companion. I recently sent my new project schematics out to a subcontractor for what I call sanity checking. I don't draw bypass / decoupling capacitors along side the component on my PADs schematics as the subcontractor prefers, instead I draw them as a bank in a corner of the page. This creates a problem in that he can't make the association between the various caps and where I intend to place them on the pcb board. In the future I'll add a component note along each capacitor in the bank to make this easier. One note I got back due to this confusion was that the EEProms require good bypass capacitors. I'm using Microchip's 24LC256-ISM and 24LC32A-ISM in different configurations. Since I'm about to specify that capacitor, I thought I'd see what, if any recommendations you all would make. Don't limit your advice to merely the EEProms I'm interested in. Take the time and post something for everyone's benefit. aka j |
