I don't think that my mass spectrometer would be practical without a ยต-controller. It would be possible, but it would require a prohibitively large number of analog circuits and their quantity would always be a fundamental limitation (for any finite number).
Longer ago that I care to remember, I worked for a company that made massspec electronincs using analog (NOT op-amps, they were not good enough) and 74TTL (no computer, uC, mC or whatever). A few years later some of the logic was replaced by a PDP-8. Erik |
