I think the referenced site says it all - in memory mapped mode it looks like a IDE hard disk rather than a block of memory - that is the main issue. You can write code to access the memory inside the compact flash but you can't map it as code memory. You could have a block of ram in your system accessable as code memory and load your code from the comapct flash into this ram.

Put simply, the compact flash looks like a disk drive - you read and write 512 byte sectors from/to it.
