The "memory mapping" does NOT imply that there is any randomly accessible memory area. CFs simply ignore the upper addresses for the 512-byte data area. The idea is, that after selecting the sector to be read you block-move the 512 bytes (or rather 256 words) into any RAM of your system - so in fact, you have to read the whole sector sequentially.
