I'm not sure what this particular implementation uses, but when I did something like it, I also opted for the magnet and Hall sensor. Take a look for yourself. It's even 8051 (derivative) powered. For reference, the Hall Sensor is U5. The Hall sensor seems to provide reasonable results, and from a distance of 8 feet or more, a sufficiently accurate index pulse to give good image quality. At closer distances, you can observe a bit of blur. I am not sure, however, where this comes from. It might be from variation in motor speed, small variation in the triggering threshhold of the Hall sensor from revolution to revolution, or perhaps even software-related. --Sasha Jevtic |
