#95261 - Re: 8051 out of 'grunt'
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Jan,

I don't know how did you achieve 2MHz pixel clock, but I am even more confused by the sprites... Somehow I don't believe the 2051 has enough computing power to do sprite table lookup... But, obviously, it works for you, so you must have used some advanced magic - maybe you graduated from Hogworth? :-)

LOL! well I can assure you it isn't magic and i'm no Harry Potter :) for the following reasons (hints)...

1.) Even @ only 2MIPS, the 2051 does indeed have an edge over the likes of 16F84 and it's replacement (forget what that was) at the same processing rate, in terms of overall hardware and opcode spec.
2.) After some research, I found that the hardware of the Atari VCS and Apple I are remarkably similar to the 8051 in terms of video generation (therefore similar to the 2051).
3.) There are 17 sprites total on that screen, but once again, I 'bend the rules' here too (some are merely duplicated psuedo-sprites).

Are you currently working on a video games app? I would be interested to know :)
