Can I just tear apart a serial cable and wire it into the breadboard? Is it that smart or do you still need some intermediary device between the PC and the chip?
You will need a MAX232(equivalent) because the signal levels for RS232 (which the PC serial port uses) are no 0-5V, they are +-12V (or some such - RS232 is the most mutilated standard of all). Thus you will need a RS232 transciever such as the MAX232. Erik |
