8255 is great chip for learning. I would say that about most of that series e.g. 8279, 8253/54, 8251. Excellent datasheets, simple to use and no errata. The OP made a common beginner's mistake. The 8255 was designed as a system chip, so all these peripherals are normally used with their Reset In connected to the Reset Out of the 8085, which the MCS51 and Z80 lack.
Having said that, there is caveat at least in India: most of these chips are pull outs or rejects, which may lead to problems outside the purview of the datasheets. I am sure you bought your kids tricycles not Segway when they were toddlers. It is not necessary to shoot down a poster for mentioning a chip which the king of diamonds used when he was a jack. |
