#98193 - the real problem is not that the 82xx is
Responding to: ???'s previous message
8255 is great chip for learning. I would say that about most of that series e.g. 8279, 8253/54, 8251. Excellent datasheets, simple to use and no errata
The real problem is not that the 82xx is old, it is that is is designed for the x86 interface and thus is not a "seamless" match for a '51. Thus 'learning' to use the 82xx will have no worth when later using the chips that have come out matching the '51 architecture better. If you consider it "valuable learning" to go through who knows how many hours of figgering to be able to use an outdated chip your idea of value differ from mine.

If this had been a 8086 forum the 82xx chips would still get "honorable mention" they just do not fit the architecture we discuss here.
