#104818 - microscope and nuts
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Working on this project and reading these discussions on emulators etc. I suddenly realised, that there are (maybe rare) tasks for which the emulators are usually NOT suitable, and the "cheapest" method - the debug printouts - work the best.

I was in a situation when a bug revealed itself only after performing a certain - long - chain of steps, while the gadget under test had to continouosly communicate with the data source. The trace memory of an ICE would be too short to store the whole sequence of events; but a set of cautiously selected printouts quickly revealed what was going on.

Microscopes are nice and fine and sophisticated, but for cracking nuts, hammer is better. Of course, it is fine to have both the microscope and hammer around, for the case... :-)
