Peter, please try the following:
* run some terminal program
* trigger your program into "Philips bootloader"
* press 'U' to autobaud
* try typing the intelhex lines for programming (e.g. try to program some unused byte to 00 - e.g. :01F00000000F for address F000h - caution I did not check for correctness)

Also, basic checks: what is the status of watchdog and interrupts (should be all off)?

Btw, an alternative "back to Philips" method (C)Erik: you can try to use IAP to reprogram the bootvector back to FC and reset the whole stuff (e.g. letting the watchdog to expire)...
