... I finally figured out the real disadvantage of my method, and what you guys were trying to tell me.
I'm currently using two separate functions to find row/column.
I now see how using your methods I can do it all in one function.
Coupled with (says Erik and Kai) greater reliability when reading a low,
It seems clear the path I should be taking.
It seems a shame to discard all I've done, since it took me so much work, but I did learn from all of it. Again, this is my first foray into the realm of microcontrollers, C, etc.
Thanks again for all of the help.
