Seems to be a good idea. But in my experience the entire probe is suffering a lot from daily use. Not only the tips, but also the plug, the contacts, yes even the cable because of these all day long twistings and these annoyingly hot solder irons. So, whenever something is wrong with the probe I buy a new one and can work with a totally fresh one.
