PS not a suggestion to the OP does anyone have any experience with a 100MHz+ version of these PC scopes that seems to abound these days? I do. I have MCS-500 from Velleman and reported about it here http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=47122 These PC-scopes work, but it's no fun to work with them, because this mouse control stuff is really a handicap. So, for extensive daily work a "true" scope with real knobs is better. Also, most of these PC-scopes suffer from considerable HF common mode noise, although the front end electronics is isolated from PC by optos in my case. In the 5mV range this common mode noise makes you think that your measured signal is noisy. You can easily estimate this common mode noise by clamping the hot pin of probe to the loction where the ground pin of probe connects to the signal ground. Then, theoretically, a zero signal should be displayed on screen, which is not in my case. This common mode noise only disappears, when the entire probe is disconnected from signal ground. An experienced person can live with it, but nevertheless it's annoying. Even the rather expensive Pico-scopes shall suffer from common mode noise, by the way. Kai |
