ARM fits perfectly under "any other microcontroller" - so I doubt there'd be any point at all in trying to shoe-horn this into an 8051...?

Of course, a Vinculum (or similar) would be equally applicable in an ARM-based solution as it would still relieve the developer of the significant amount of work necessary to implement the USB host stack and FAT filesystem (or whatever).
