#145131 - It is a matter of convenience
Responding to: ???'s previous message
SI units are not bound to anything practical, so the "Imperial" or English units persist, despite valid arguments that they should be abandoned.

What practical unit of measure for weight relates to a "gram?"

What practical unit of measure for length relates to a "meter?"

Every practical SI unit I encounter is a kilo-something or a centi-something.

On the other hand, is there any question as to how large a "foot" might be? A gallon is a pretty handy size for a bucket. A pint is a pretty handy size for a glass of beer. The ancient Romans determined that a mile should be the distance an army travels in 1000 paces, a pace being the distance between corresponding footprints.

I freely admit that a liter is a pretty reasonable size for a bottle of wine. Unfortunately, it's no longer imported in that size bottle. <sigh>
