how about a portable, universal ISP (ICP) programmer ?

that's totally crazy

1) in system/circuit programming means no programmer required.
2) try using FlashMagic with Atmel or FLIP with NXP - no universality.
3) what is more 'portable' than an Internet download of FlashMagic.
4) if you want to work with the stupid, error prone, Atmel SPI ICP then buy the Atmel cable - again no universality.
