#148062 - some words about semantics Responding to: ???'s previous message |

1) in system/circuit programming means no programmer required. Just hoping that there are no labour union guys reading this chat as they would go crazy and ban any form of ISP/ICP because those make programmers obsolete ! With programmer I meant an arrangement that can communicate with the MCU of a ready-to-run circuitry without the need to remove the MCU from that particular circuitry. Arrangement often called as ICP/ISP. The purpose of this communication is to alter the MCU instructions - often called program. So You have the development platform and then You have this KANDA cable. I bet it is not too uncommon to call this cable as a programmer although it is just a bundle of wires. And to call the guy using it as "Geek" as nobody seems to understand what he is doing. Erik Malund said:
2) try using FlashMagic with Atmel or FLIP with NXP - no universality. So true. Erik Malund said:
3) what is more 'portable' than an Internet download of FlashMagic. If Your target MCU is sitting on top of a mast You definitely want more portability. In this the word portable means the behaviour of the user when he is told to carry the device along. If an angry grin is seen then the device is propably not too portable. Erik Malund said:
4) if you want to work with the stupid, error prone, Atmel SPI ICP then buy the Atmel cable - again no universality. So true. I actually tried once to use the SPI and the results are described quite accurately above. And the Atmel (or KANDA) cable on it's part has been proven to be reliable and simple enough. I assume Erik has gone through the PITA of this. Quite a share of this conversation has been pure bred semantics. It may seem to be worthless to someone but I personally take it really seriously. Misunderstandings can be really costly. So I make a new try with this thing: How about an offsite, universal in circuit capable MCU communication unit ? This idea is not new. There was a ready to go program int this thread by Charles Townsend. |
