The ARM, if it fits in the budget, is nearly always a more convenient and "better" solution than any 8-bitter. First of all, the fastest ARMs are faster than the fastest 805x's, yet cost less, when I last checked.

Secondly, some of the best tools in the world are available for the ARM, with nothing really comparable for the small-micro world.

I could go on ... price ... availability ... support ... suitability for the task, no matter how large or complex.
