OK I think the Silabs DK for the 8051F020 fits my bill quite nicely. That coupled with the USB JTAG debug adaptor is just about fine.

I know I have to manage with one DAC less but I guess I need to configure a port to handle a discrete DAC - I just could not locate any MCU pcb which had 3 DAC outputs.
